But, since I started using Malwarebytes, Avira Free Antivirus, Avast Free Antivirus and Comodo Firewall, I did let Zemana go off my computer. Proactive defense Windows 8 also takes steps toward eliminating access to a kernel component that has been a consistent source of trouble over the years. Win32k.sys is a Windows driver that's responsible for providing core services to GUI applications; it implements portions of both USER, the Windows component that handles the creation and manipulation of windows, and GDI, Windows' ancient 2D graphics API. Once upon a time, win32k.sys didn't reside in the kernel; prior to Windows NT 4, it was a non-kernel component. However, to improve GDI performance in Windows NT 4, it got moved into the kernel, and it has remained there ever since. Win32k.sys includes all sorts of complicated things, and these complicated things have historically had security flaws in them. The Duqu trojan, for example, exploited a win32k.sys font parsing bug. Windows 8 does not reverse Windows NT 4's design change (at this point in time, it's hard to see Microsoft ever undoing that particular alteration), but it does take some steps to make them a bit harder to exploit. In Windows 8, processes can be barred from having access to any win32k.sys features. No matter what win32k.sys bugs crop up in the future, attacks on those processes won't be able to take advantage. Does Zemana AntiLogger 64-bit provide the same level of protection as the 32-bit edition? At present all AntiLogger modules are fully functional under 64-bit systems, except for the screen capture module, which provides only basic protection. Our engineering team is currently working to develop the screen capture module to be 64-bit compatible and, when ready, the module will be released with our regular product updates. What does this mean? You still get protection against the most dangerous threats, such as key loggers and SSL banker Trojans; but until the module is ready, we would advise our customers who use 64-bit computers NOT to enter passwords and other sensitive information through on-screen virtual keyboards unless they are positive that the application providing the on-screen keyboard protects it really well. If Windows 8 has made a lot of changes to the kernel to improve security, how does it protect me, the user of Windows 8, the person who's upgraded from Windows 7? Does Windows 8 protect me by dismantling Zemana Antilogger, that does an excellent job on Windows 7? From your article: 'it takes the solid Windows 7 foundation and makes things better'. Or may be I forgot about the new antilogger from Microsoft. America the beautiful voice crack vine. Where can I download the anti-logger from Microsoft? Click to expand. You seem to be responding to a point that I never made; I'm commenting on compatibility issues. Zemana and others may support x64, in part or full, but Windows 8 compatibility is a different issue. So the point is that the OP isn't doing anything wrong, and that it's worth it for everyone on the forum to read up on the changes to be aware of them as we discover the implications. However, it helps by making it harder for malware to get a keylogger on your system in the first place. For people whose security strategy includes blocking certain behaviors of malware once it's fully active may need to make a shift in their security strategy. It is entirely possible to retain the same level of security without these specific features. I would also bet that there's new types of protection on the horizon.
